General Information: Climate

Area has a continental climate, influenced only slightly by the sea. The average year has a total of about forty-five inches of precipitation, and a 169-day growing season (April 27 to Oct.13). The hardest rains often come during summer thunderstorms in July and August. The intensities of summer storms are affected by the Watchung Mountains. Some of the heavily laden clouds come from the west and cannot cross the mountains easily.
