These boardwalks are located west of Jasons and between Petes small bridges.
They include extending two of Keiths boardwalks, one of which was connected to one
of Petes bridges. We developed a technique to bend a boardwalk now called the
"Karl Fong crab maneuver". This is where decking is added to one side rather
than turning the boardwalk. The lumber was carried in by hand from Toms' bridge. Karl Fong
and Troop 88 completed them in July 1998.
Walk Like a Crab!
Close inspection of the boardwalk along this section of the trail shows an interesting
construction! This has been nicknamed the "Karl Fong crab maneuver" after the
Eagle scout who first figured out that adding decking to one side continually would allow
the boardwalk to bend around obstacles, rather than creating actual corners, or turning
sections. Just imagine carrying all the lumber into the trail for these boardwalks!
